At one time it may have seemed inconceivable to use social media platforms to book gigs, but a lot has changed over the last 15 years. As such, we should not stay in a mindset that limits any potential opportunity! Instead, understand that Facebook and Instagram are not just for sharing pictures of family, meals, pets, and the occasional political rant.
These platforms, at least for those pushing to further their career opportunities, are business tools. You must use them and keep relevant, as long as you are not becoming the tool of the platform.
Over the last few years I have come to rely on social media to build more of a presence and to create opportunities. Along the way I have gone past the mindless scrolling and have opted to engage and create along with using the traditional approaches to finding performance and teaching opportunities.
One thing is for sure, you should not discount the tools we have at our disposal. Just because this approach is not the way it's been done, it does not mean that it is useless.
